From my Video to my Radio…

Bonus points if you can identify the source of today’s blog entry title…

Camtasia is a FANTASTIC video recording software tool. My trial period will be up at the end of the month, but I’m definitely going to go ahead and buy the full version. (No, I don’t hack trials. If you like something, give the creators their fair due so they’ll make more.)

I’m still a bit off from creating spell effects, which should be pretty cool to see and make changes and adjustments to. For now, here’s a video of the dynamic battlemap loading and random placement of units on opposing sides:

should the missed stone go outside the combat map window?

  2. Chris Rasmus says:

Yeah I noticed that too on a couple shots. They went outside the viewable combat area into the UI. Heh.

In fact it looked like one of the shots from the guy up top missed the target, went out of the viewable combat area, then it displayed Powerful Shot! or something and killed the mob.

Looking good though! Thanks for taking the time to make a vid. Really cool.

Yeah, I got some kind of math issue with a few angles… the algorithm is deterministic as far as how far it goes, so it’s definitely off in math, not because of some contact issue.

I could introduce a check into the animation code to see if any sprites are “outside” the window area, and just turn them transparent. That should help if players do something like cast a cone effect OFF the edge of the screen just for yucks.

Oh, and the wand attack from the wizard isn’t right, it should be going right, not up… These are minor bugs that I’ll get around to hunting down and fixing.

Dude, I never cease to be thoroughlly impressed with your development. Fantastic stuff.

Owen! So good to see you again. The forum’s have been lacking a certain enthusiasm since your departure. Hope you’re back around again for awhile. šŸ™‚
